I'm a volunteer writing on behalf of a wonderful GSD girl at the West LA shelter. Please forward, crosspost, and courtesy list if possible! I have a soft spot for shepherds, and Ruby (ID#A0624586) is special. She's a beautiful 5 year old German Shepherd, mostly black with tan/sable and some adorable white freckles on her chest! I would love to see her get into foster, or better yet adopted. I can help with rescue transport in the SoCal area. misfitz616@ yahoo. com Ruby is not redlisted (yet), but she's been in the shelter for a month now. VERY nice, sweet dog, that needs to get out of the shelter environment. She needs a job, of course she does, she's a shepherd! This girl will flourish in rescue with a good foster home - in the shelter she's a bit too anxious to focus, and can you blame her? Ruby is friendly and submissive with people, and medium energy. She's doing well in the shelter's obedience training program. She can be dog-reactive, but responds well to "No" and can be redirected. She's on the smaller side, probably around 50 lbs. She has excellent manners, doesn't jump up but enjoys getting affection. She knows sit and shake, and walks well on a leash. She's attentive and dignified, and would make a great hiking companion or jogging buddy, or agility or SAR prospect! Please help my pal Ruby find a home! RUBY - ID#A0624586 WEST LOS ANGELES 11361 West Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90064 888-4LAPET1 or 888-452-7381 Thanks!! Shannon misfitz616@ yahoo. com |

Big bump for lovely Ruby - Shannon, has anyone tried contacting Coastal, Westside, or some of the other CA GSD rescues?

Ruby is now GREENLISTED.
I have more info on her "dog-reactive" label.Apparently, at obedience class, another, very large, dog got in her face (I'm not sure the details, I think he's pretty young and may have been puppy-playing but that's just a guess) and Ruby got snappy with him. It was hard for her to calm down and concentrate for the rest of the class. Another volunteer, who was there, thought it was more fear-based than anything. IMO, she wasn't actively looking for a fight, but also wasn't going to back down when she felt threatened. Not exactly abnormal GSD behavior. Also doesn't mean she is reactive to ALL dogs (doesn't mean she isn't, either, but benefit of the doubt?) My personal observation has been that she reacts to being barked at when walking down the kennels - she barks back. It's a rare dog that doesn't react to that! Other than that, I haven't personally seen her around any other dogs, so can't judge. I had her out for a walk the other day, and while she pulls (again, who doesn't?) she's quite submissive to people and takes direction well. She wasn't fearful outside, but was calm and alert. Big, black, German Shepherd who has gotten a 'dog-reactive' label - doesn't stand a chance. This would be a wonderful dog with the right family.Did I mention transport is available to rescue in SoCal?
