The day before I left town (Labor day) I noticed a bump on Doc's snout. There was no "growth" or "lesion", it just looked a bit swollen. You could only notice it if you were looking at his snout from the side. He is very clumsy and plays hard with my roommate's boxer every day, so i figured it was just a swollen bump from running into something. I boarded him for 7 days at his doggy day camp. I returned from my trip on Monday (yesterday) and picked him up. The worker asked me about the bump and when he went to grab Doc, I saw that the bump had completely changed. It is now an outer growth/lesion. He doesn't itch it or rub it too much (maybe once every 5-6 hours) I am making an appt for the vet tomorrow and will post an update when I know what this is.
Please feel free to post if you have had something similar happen. My mom is suggesting ringworm. We've looked up lesions/growths on dogs and I can't seem to pinpoint it, so I'm not going to do the guessing game and will just wait till what the vet says before I take a course of action.

I actually gasped at the profile picture.
I don't have any idea (that I would want to share-because I always have scary ideas that I am sure you have already freaked yourself out about) but am glad he's going to the vet tomorrow and will be looking forward to finding out that he's okay!
You might also want to PM SeanRescueMom she seems to know some skin stuff, and I am drawing a blank, but do know that there are several people on this board who do as well.

It doesn't look like the ring worm I have seen. I wonder if it could be an abscess? I hope it is no big deal! Sheilah

I am REALLY hoping that it is not ringworm, as from what I've read about it, it takes A LOT of cleaning to get rid of the spores around the house and it is contagious to other dogs and cats. My roommate has a dog and 2 cats, so I am really crossing my fingers.
Got a vet appt tomorrow morning.

Went to the vet this morning and didn't get much of an answer yet.
First and foremost - no mention of ringworm! YES!!
Vet said it looks like 1 of 2 things - an allergic reaction to a bug bite or a histiocytoma. He gave me an ointment to put on it to treat it as a bug bite. If it doesn't go away in the next 3 weeks, he wants me to being Doc back to do a biopsy. As much as I get impatient and frustrated with not getting an answer right away, I can understand his reasoning for not doing the biopsy today. It will save me money in the long run if it turns out to be just a bug bite. Plus he said if they were to cut a piece out, the bump would be more irritating for Doc and he'd want to itch it more.
In the meantime do you guys think I should put some type of bandage on it?

Update: The only change has been the color of the growth. It is now a dull/pale pink. I'd say it has gone slightly down in size, but not much. I have a little over a week before it has hit the "3 week mark" of taking him back to the vet if it doesn't go away. *Crossing fingers*
