Teaching the sit....

Hi,

My German Shepherd Kya is now 10 months old. I am training her in new tricks using a clicker. I think i'm doing it right..... I've got Karen Pryors book and i've learnt the method from an animal trainer in NZ

However I am wanting to really get her sitting better when I say "sit" especially when we go outside and are crossing roads etc....
She sits for me when I am about to throw her ball or when I have her dinner and occasionally when I put her lead on but other times when I want her to sit and I say it shes clearly not interested in sitting. When I have her attention she will do it every time
I feel that she knows the trick very well because she sits every time she knows have food or the toy she does it straight away.

Any advice on how to continue?

Cheers

Sounds like you need to go back and work on fading the lure better. She is waiting to see her lure before she does the behavior and hasn't learned to do it even if she can't see any obvious reward.

It also sounds like she's bored. Try making training sessions more fun before fading the lure. Bailiff, another member here, posted a video of him working an exciting obedience game with his dog, Zebu. Here's the link to check it out - Obedience with food game
