Default Suggested training materials

Hey guys, I'm new to the GSD world. My girl, Kyra, is 4 and a half months old and from a pure working line. I unfortunately had to board her with the in-laws for the last 5 weeks. She has lost some of her training that I had worked on with her. I actually have purchased an electronic collar to work with too.. (thoughts on that?) And I am just really looking for some good reading materials to work with her. Or some good advice. The first thing I need is just puppy behavior, the basic commands and leash training.. so a trip to the pet store or the park isn't a barking/pulling on the leash craziness. I also have an 8 week old golden retriever, so puppy training will be good to have for that too.

Thanks, Shawn

Ok, thank you. I've been looking into trainers around here, they're just a lot more expensive than I had thought.. and I'm having trouble with deciding on which one to go with. She is growing up with my 3 and 4 year old daughters, she is gentle with the retriever pup, and she socializes with other dogs quite often. Although in our new house , she has a barking war with the neighbors Jack Russell.

has your dog and the Jack Russel been introduced to each other? socializing involves
a lot more than meeting dogs.

Ok. No she hasn't yet, we just moved into this house yesterday. They just bark at each other and run the fence line together. I know the neighbors well already, so I'll arrange that.

PLEASE!! Put away the electric collar. No offense but this is to be used only when you know what you are doing and it seems you are not there yet.

The last thing you want to do is ruin your dog.

yep I'm with Zayda, wait on the e collar, she's pretty young to use one on in my opinion.

And yep, see if you can introduce her to the JRT, who knows they may become friends?

I would just start at the beginning with her, work on your basics, sit/ RECALL being the most important.

See if you can find a good obedience/puppy class in your area..Ask your vet they may know of someone..good luck !
