Gaia's only 10 months so her walking skills may easily change in the future but with a solid bond and consistent training I have no problem with her taking the lead so to speak, it would be different if you were being dragged down the side walk but I really don't think there's anything wrong with a dog especially a puppy exploring a little bit on a walk.
