Default Crate Games...

... who does them?

I was utmost sceptic at first, turned and now I am an absolute believer. Those games ROCK in pretty much any kind of way. It is unbelievable how they change the relationship, motivation and the entire foundation of the dog.

With each day, the self-control and motivation progresses and I am so happy to see the results not only in the car but also in the training.

Right now I'm at a point where I tease her with a ball and that is a tough one for her, and then immediately release her to get the ball.

So...anyone else doing it?

Never even heard of those games before we started the training three weeks ago. I would have never expected such results in just three weeks. So having a trainer that can tell you what you do wrong instantly and corrects you right there on the spot, makes a huge difference.

Also, crate games have a totally different inpact on green dogs. If you do the crate games before you teach them the down, for example... it actually teaches the dog to stay. Usually they get right back up. Nala actually stays in the down and controls herself, simply due to those crate games.

Are these the Susan Garrett games? I just watched 3 of her webinars last night. I liked her.

I believe so. We did learn them from Debbie Zappia though.

I started crate games with Savvy and it definitely helped him learn stay and impulse control.

Crate Games are the foundations (in some circles- mostly agility) for all that is good in training. I have the SG DVD and I do train with such games.

That's 'cause Susan Garrett rocks. She is by far my favorite trainer and I feel she has a lot of really good things to say concerning training. If you enjoyed those webinars, RocketDog, then you will likely enjoy this blog post.

I think it rocks that we actually learned it from a Schutzhund Person.
