I thought it might be interesting to read some individual training tips that we have found that works well for us.
An example for me is I put double tags on my dog. I live in the country and allow my dog to run and explore while I work out in the barn. I can't always keep an eye on him while I'm working. But I can hear him. With the tags jingling I know where he is. I can also tell if he is giving chase to something by the speed of the jingle - so I can react quickly. If I don't hear the jingle, I know that he is resting somewhere. If I can't see him, I can say, "I can't see you!" and he'll get up and come to where I can see him (he can see me) and he'll lay down once more. The double tags also foil his diabolical plans to give me a heart attack by jumping up on the bed when I'm nearly asleep. I can hear him get up, approach the bed....and then I'm ready.
