My "almost" 5 month old pup is starting to show signs that she is guarding her water from other dogs. We play with the neighbors golden retriever in their yard and she wraps her paws around the bowl almost and hovers over the water. if she leaves the water and the golden goes over to the water she butts right in - she has yet to growl or get too possessive, but I can see that coming. She did the same thing when we met up with her littermate for a playdate at the park last night. When with the neighbor dog i have her off leash. What is the best way to correct this before it does become an issue. I have been going over and her pulling her away from the water bowl and giving her a stern NO...should I be doing more?

Put out at least one more water dish on the other side of the yard so she can't guard the water. This way she will relax more and you may nip this in the bud by doing nothing
