Storm after storm tore across our city today and so we thought...great desensitizing by repetition opportunity. We pulled the unwilling Brutus outside and began obligating him to go for a walk. Oh he resisted alright. He jumped at the leash and tried to bite it into two pieces with his teeth, he growled and kept trying to run home, but we held our ground with him as the rain beat down upon us and lightning and thunder boomed loudly. We took him around the block once the first time. The when the second storm hit, we took him out again, this time he came a bit more willing than the first time.
But he still put up a good fight about halfway down the block. Then he suddenly began walking a bit more willingly with us. We walked him around twice this time.He even took a pee which is big because he doesn't pee when he is nervous. Then we did not let him back into the house it took about 10 restarts up the driveway until he walked slowly at a heel and sat and waited politely in front of the door until we invited him in. We were all soaking wet at the end of this and a couple neighbors were glued to their windows probably calling us nuts for being out there in the storm, but I did see some success and it has given us lots of hope that we can overcome this challenge yet!
