How can I give a job to my dog? At 11 months, I feel as if he should already feel like he has a certain role to fill at a certain time. I've read the sticky "Give your dog a Job" thread, but all that was said was what a dog does.
What I want to know is HOW do I 'teach' him the job? Please keep in mind that I don't plan on doing SchH or something that is club-like, or else I wouldn't be asking. I want to be able to do this on my own time. |

Getting your dog involved in a sport is the best way as it gives him training and exercise. As for giving your dog a job, it doesn't have to be anything big or formal. It can be anything simple from keeping an eye on where you are while walking so he doesn't bump you or pull on leash, to - one of my fosters ended up with this one - keeping wild ducks out of the home pool. It's all about making your dog responsible for something, no matter how small.

Tracking is something you can do on your own but you would have to learn it first. So either get books or videos? The best way to learn would be to take lessons of course or attend a club so they can teach you.
