in my opinion youve gotta start with yourself as the person whom the dog is living with. if you want to keep the dogs attention you cant be Dull. you said this yourself your playtime with the puppy is important make it fun and exciting and he will enjoying spending time with you and a dog that is in fun company will train attentively hope this helps. works for me.
