My boy is nearly 11 weeks old and has a firm grasp on what I consider to be the 'basics'- sit, down, stay and come.
I am about to move house again and will look at obedience classes in my new area, shame I am moving away from a great one!
But what do they usually expect in obedience?
What would you do next?
Bearing in mind I have hopes this boy may become my service dog in the future (fully appreciate it may not happen for a variety of reasons but will aim for it regardless). He will also be attending horse shows / events with me which are sometimes overnight, and usually require the dog to be leashed at all times.
Any good resources? (I am subscribed to a couple of great channels on youtube, kikopup has been my go-to thus far).
A couple of photos of the cheeky boy from today:
- Sit is easy and 100%. He knows he has to sit for dinner, at doors, etc.
- Down can be a bit sticky, he thinks he has to be on my toes so working on getting him to go down wherever he is at the time.
- His recall is 99% and I have used it in highly distracting areas (puppy school, backyard zoomies) with success.
- Stay we are working on as well, he is good if I am close / in sight- working on those two factors.
- Recently started loose leash walking, he is definitely getting the idea.
- In addition we are working on a few 'tricks' like roll over, spin.
- He is being socialised with dogs old and young, big and small; and all sorts of people.
