Default Which training, and can I combine training?

OK. So I've read a few different threads on here, and by a few I mean a lot over the last few weeks about different training methods.

At the moment, I'm leaning towards clicker training and plan on going to the local library for more books about it.

I am getting an 8 week old, not until the end of November (thats when it will be 8 weeks) so I have plenty of time to do some more study and decide.

That I really want thoughts and opinions on are:

Should I clicker train? I've never done it before. I don't know anyone who has, and the one local dog trainer doesnt use clicker training. However, everything I've seen and read makes it look really good. I don't want a competitive dog or anything like that, just a family dog we can have fun with

Secondly, I've been reading this in regards to house breaking the puppy. Along with some articles about crate training and crate games. I want the dog to sleep in a crate at least until its older, and basically want to know if I can combine this with the clicker.

I'm thinking, that once the dog knows what the clicker is for (accomplished by loading?) that I can use it to teach the bell method and with all the other stuff?

Any help, advice, do's, don'ts are very much appreciated.

The artice I have been reading off for clicker training is here

Hope I made sense, thanks!

Clicker training is awesome! I'm using it with Kya at the moment and she's responding well. I taught her how to bow with it and I feel pretty awesome when she does it super easy to do

Can't go wrong with a clicker, go for it.

Clicker training is an excellent method! It's fun for you and your pup, and it is very effective. One of the biggest things is being sure that you have good timing and that you build on behaviors step by step and be sure you aren't throwing too much distraction or difficulty at once. A couple of good youtube channels to look at for clicker training are Training Positive and kikopup.

The potty training protocol looks excellent to me.

Crate games are a great thing to do with a new pup to familiarize them with their crate in a positive manner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8HNO79bZMY

You don't have to use the clicker to teach the bell method. I started it by pointing and focusing very intently on the bell before I took my puppy out. A puppy is naturally curious and will investigate something you are focusing on. Once he touches it with a nose or paw, you can praise and open the door. So he learns that tapping the bell opens the door. You can do it either way, that was just how I did it with mine and it worked well because it got him working to make the connection from the first instance we went outside.

Good luck with your new pup, I'm excited to see pictures!

Clicker training and shaping is the way to go with a pup. It will create a dog that THINKS.

Thanks guys. With it in mind that I am an absolute beginner can anyone advise what's the best place to start? Do I just worry about positive association with the crate and potty training for a couple weeks then introduce the clicker and things after that is sorted for about 5-10min training periods a day??
