Default boarding training?

Wondering if anyone has used board and train before. The puppy/dog stays overnight at a training facility for 10-14 days. After that time is over, they give you private lessons on how to communicate with the dog. Apparently it works wonders and most of the time the dogs come back behaving amazingly. I would just like an opinion from someone who has tried this method.

It worked amazing for me. Mine was a puppy when I did it, around 3 months old. I wanted to tear my hair out before that. I did it again couple months later. I carefully researched who the puppy will go to. She was head over heels with the trainer.

My dog went to a trainer who has a variety of dogs of her own plus access to other dogs and puppies so my dog got to experiment all that. She got to play with some malinois puppies that were shipped to the trainer to evaluate. The puppy went out with the trainer every day and had too much fun. Came back with amazing recall - say name once and she comes running enthusiastically however far away she is. The perky-ness and eagerness that she did it with was impressive. She came back a happier, more satisfied dog because I weren't skilled to provide the guidance she needed. I have to keep up with the training to maintain that but it gave me a great start. The trainer also got her swimming (the puppy wasn't too eager so needed help to get in) and now she'll sneak into every water stream if I'm not paying attention.

Bear, how old is your dog now? Also, why did you send her in again? And how long was she there for each time?

3 months is pretty young, maybe that's why you had to send her again?

It was 3 weeks first then 2 weeks second. 2nd time is because I'm moving and thought will be easier for me to not worry about the dog during the move and the chaos that came with it. It was not because she was young that I sent her in again. If I have an adult dog, I'd have done board and train as well since I had access to such a great trainer. If I didn't find one I was comfortable with, she'd not have gone even once.

Dog is almost 3 now. She has had other trainers since then.

The trainer is Michael Ellis' partner for their malinois breeding program. She came highly recommended.

thanks! i am definitely interested in doing this for Gunner now. Does 1000 sound like a reasonable price? Do they typically have you pay the whole thing up front?

Anyway, people in ca are very lucky. A few good trainers there. Maybe one day...
