Muzzle conditioning?

I'm sure he won't ever need a muzzle because he's the world's most happy-go-lucky dog. But, Is it better to start conditioning my pup to a muzzle now in case he ever needs it when he gets older? Or is it pretty simple to get them used to it as an adult?

Unless you need it, there's no reason to worry about it at this point.

Both my dogs have had to wear a muzzle once in their life, for hip x-rays. No fuss, no worry, it was on in seconds and off in minutes.

OK. I've been trying to socialize him/condition him to everything I possibly can. Just wasn't too sure on the muzzle so thanks for the info.

I have conditioned my dogs to the muzzle. Some dogs do freak out so it is good to know in advance.

I like leerburg's words on it. Though I haven't done it, read too late.

'When you're crate training them also condition them to the muzzle. Gives them something else to think about besides being in the crate.'

Lol I don't know how this works, just passing it on. It was funny to read

I condition all of my dogs to muzzles. Most do not tolerate them well without it, and if your dog ever needs one, it is likely to be a very stressful situation already. Why stress them out more?

Whether you do it now or wait doesn't matter, it will work just the same, but if you need a muzzle between now and then, it'd be better to do it now.
