I've been had

Gunther was doing so great at not jumping up on me once I started jerking my knee up. He has figured out a way around it. He now jumps up from a little distance outside of knee range and lunges with his paws.

On the plus side, I am SO proud of his progress on the sit and stay. I have reached the point where I can put him in a stay and place treats around the room with him watching and waiting for permission. I can also put his favorite toy (the football for those of you who don't already know) on the ground and get him to ignore it. Today we started working on "leave it" to discourage him from bringing the muddy ball into the house. It's slow but he's showing huge progress.

Anyway, any help with trying out avoid Gunther's jumping now that he's outsmarted me?

I use drop it as they are coming in with outside toys. All of them except for one understand the concept and do it in their own now. My female was a jumper and it took a ling time to break it. She would only jump on us when we came home, so I started telling her to go to a nearby chair and that worked great. After a while she would run to the chair when we walked in. She was able to reach us that way to give kisses. She eventually grew out of all of it and we have no more jumping.

I hope he outgrows it! It seems like for every 3 steps we make forward he takes one back. He has even taken to jumping on me when I'm holding his toy which he hasn't done in a month. Bah! I'll just stick to it and persevere through lol

Turn away from him and ignore him when he does that. It worked for my dog
