Default When to start formal training?

What is a good age to start formal obedience training in a class setting with a trainer? I had one trainer tell me she won't start until at least 5 months old. I went to her puppy kindergarten class, but her style of training is not for me, she uses a Caesar Milan style training, is very aggressive with the puppies and with holds treats, she doesn't feel they are needed for training, so I am currently looking for another trainer, but I live in a rural area in central Illinois and am not having much luck locating one.

Now. Start shaping NOW. Get a clicker. Look for a positive based trainer.

Zeus is 15 weeks old now, I have been working on the basics with him for quite a while now, he's pretty good at sit and down, working on stay, just wasn't sure when to start classes.

start classes as soon as his vaccinations are done if you want to put him in classes. basic obedience like sit, down, stay, etc. is easy enough for him to learn at home with treats and a clicker or whatever positive training you can do. i taught mine sit, down, stay, drop it/leave it, kennel, speak, roll over, play dead, and fetch all at home just showing him how from what i learned on the internet. you can also work on loose leash training yourself.

I started training my girl as soon as I brought her home. She was almost 6 weeks by 7 weeks she mastered sit and knew the command lay down. 8 masters lay down. And learned paw at 9 weeks at 9 1/2 weeks she let me knew when she had to potty outside and now at 11 weeks we learned speak. I train my dogs myself. I don't use the clicker method I reward with her treat immediately. It takes patience and a lot of praise

Candi,

What type of treats are safe for pups? And how many treats are too many, don't want to spoil my boys appetite.

I start training the day puppies come home. They start a class around 12 weeks typically.
