Ah, that makes more sense. I would think he's simply saying "go back to basics" and start from scratch Sometimes we all need a reset and having a solid obedience foundation to build on does help with fearful dogs (my poodle is one).

Probably just talking about basic fundamentals. Why don't you ask your trainer what he means by puppy essentials?

Exactly what Castlemaid said.. back to basics.. second i would go to a different trainer if you can't ask him questions like that.. that would infuriate me, I ask way to many questions to be shut down by someone who doesn't know why people don't know things.. lol.

Does that give you a better idea of what you need to do or do you want further help on what that means too?

I agree, find another trainer. That's why he's the trainer and you're the student, a good trainer should encourage you to ask questions so you understand what is going on and why you are doing things.

He sounds like a condescending a-hole, if you ask me.

I wouldn't pay someone to be condescending or insulting to me. I have a problem rewarding rude behavior. There are much more effective ways to communicate and if you have customers, you need to utilize them!

Some might say that the dog is the customer. Wrong. The dog doesn't pay the training bill.
