Default Leash??

SO I've heard every say how they have their do trained to get its leash and pick up it's own toys. I've looked into it and I still can't find a straight answer. How did you teach your dog to get it's own leash and pick up it's toys??

It all starts with play. Encouraging your dog to take items in their mouth. Then it becomes a labeled command (like "take it!" or "hold it" or similar). Label items and go nuts!

i taught my dog "find it". i hide something an i say "find it"
and he goes after it. when i hid his leash i use to say
"get your leash". after awhile it didn't matter wher his leash
was. all i had to say is "get your leash" and he'll go and get it.

to help get his interest in his leash when we came home from
a walk i would give him his leash to carry from the driveway
to the house. when we were walking in the woods i would
wait untill we were near the car an i would give him his leash
to carry to the car. when were home i laid his leash on the
coffee table, the seat of a chair, on the bed, sofa, etc.
i laid his leash somewhere were he could easily get it.
then i would randomly tell him to "get your leash". whenever
i told him to "get your leash" i took him out. i think that
helped with his interst in his leash. sometimes when we're
walking i would unleash him and tell him to "heel".
i would carry the leash in my right hand. i randomly
dropped the leash while walking. then i would say
"get your leash" and he would go back and pick it up.
at some point i could drop his leash and without saying anything
he would pick it up.

i think my dog likes carrying things. when we come home from
shopping i can give him something to carry from the car to the
house. most of the time he looks for something to carry from the
car to the house.

play retrieving games. use different things for him to retrieve.

You can check on youtube for Zak George or Kikopup or Sophia Yin's videos, all of which use very positive methods to teach dogs and probably have specifics on teaching retrieves.
