Question Potty Training. Help!

Hi, new GSD owner. His name is Bones and he is almost 20 weeks. He knows sit, stay, come, lay down, and shake. We have been working on potty training since we got him at 7 weeks and we just cant seem to get it down. I am crate training. When I cant keep my eyes on him he does get put in his crate and he sleeps in it at night. I bring him every time he needs to go. But he still goes every 5 minutes like he's still 7 weeks old. If I don't get up as soon as he is ready he will pee on the floor. I have about 30 seconds to get to the door. He holds it all night and while I'm gone, sometimes up to 6 hours. I just don't understand why he still goes outside every 5 minutes. How can I get him to hold it a little longer when he's out of his crate? I'm getting tired. He is a fast learner, when it comes to commands. We just cant get the potty training down. I praise him when he's good outside and I never scolded him for accidents up until 2 weeks ago. I don't spank, I tell him bad boy and put him in his crate for 5 minutes. Someone please help me. What am I doing wrong? Thank You, and sorry for any spelling errors.

There are lots of threads on potty training in the Puppy Place. Good Luck!

How frustrating!

If I were you I'd go back and read thru ---> What is crate training (why put my puppy in a cage?) and go thru ALL the steps of housebreaking/crate training.

I know alot of times I read things and will take short cuts in training cause something seems stupid or a waste of time so skip steps. Not realizing that, for a puppy, each and every step is important to make things clear to A DOG. They aren't little humans and don't thing thru things the way I do .

It sounds like you are doing fairly well in the house, but I wasn't clear about what goes on when you send the dog outside. Are YOU going out each and everytime to mark and PRAISE the pooping/peeing outdoors? How well is he doing out on walks?

How is general dog training and the dog classes going? Is he holding it when in classes and out with other dogs?
