Hi everyoe. I have a GSD named Boo. He is 4 months today. He does not go pee in the house, we have a special place for him to pee (the balcony) is this right? Or should i be walking him? When he wants to pee he goes out to the balcony and pees and comes back and i praise him. Is this right? Or should i be walking him?

I suggest that you walk him so he learns to go outside. Also, as your pup gets bigger that is going to be a large mess to clean up and I wouldn't want the odors on my balcony. The balcony could be used for times when he has to be left alone for a long period.

Fiona is trained to us the balcony. Mary Beth is right, odor becomes a problem. It needs to be washed down daily. Walk him when you can and have the balcony for overnight or alone time.

If your balcony is cement, it might be difficult for your dog to learn that going on cement is not the correct place to go. If you are at a big box pet store, or walking along on the side walk, someone's drive way...etc.
I would hate to be the neighbor downstairs from you.....

I agree with everyone you should definitely start walking the pup, it might seem like the easy thing right now but as he gets older the harder it will be as for the daily upkeep and the odor over time will be so intense... Leave the balcony as a secondary option besides going for walks are fun, I love walking her.. If you properly teach the dog how to walk on lead...

Hi Kylin
![]() 4 month old puppy pee is not nearly as much, nor as gross as grownup dog pee. It's gonna get pretty stinky as he grows up, and probably leak on the downstairs neighbors eventually. Yikes! Now is a good time to start walking with your dog and get him trained with the leash...before he weighs 80 lbs, LOL! It's fun, too.
