How do you teach your dog to stay out of the kitchen?
She hangs around there and another room in out house mostly. How can I get her to get out when preparing and eating though because she looks up.
Thanks. |
without pulling the dog lead them out of the kitchen and say "out of the kitchen" and as soon as they get past the line you dont want them to cross give your marker word, mine for instance is "Yes!" Keep doing that they will get the hang of it... It only took Diesel maybe 3 minuets to learn this, and then from then on I would just have to say "Out of my kitchen!" and she would go but mostly she never even went in there anymore :)

I just body blocked Ozzy out.
If he passed the imaginary line, I body blocked him back out, and made him wait. After he waited for a few seconds, he was rewarded. After repeating this several times, he got it down. :) It might be easier if you mark the floor with something like a piece of tape. It's kind of funny, because now ANY room can be, "Out of the kitchen." Haha. |
I just use the word OUT. It means leave whatever room you are in - kitchen, office, living room, etc.
Comes in very handy. |
When we eat they do not cross the "line", which is the doorway into the kitchen. It only took about a week to teach all of them and it works out, now I have to figure out how to keep one of the cats out:confused:
