Default Natty Boh's second class and doing it MY way

Tuesday was my second class with Natty Boh. Below is the link to the thread reg. class #!. I emailed the trainer and politely told her that if Boh needed to be corrected, I would correct him myself. I told her I was not comfortable yanking Boh on the prong. I would prefer to have him heel as I taught him, or we would sit and observe. She did not respond, but she did not bother us in class. Boh was not corrected and we heeled MY way. As a matter of fact, the entire class heeled my way. Boh is by far the best behaved and best trained puppy in the class. He did heel, sit and stand perfectly. Yes, the HOUND DOG is the best one. LOL!

Not happy with new puppy class....

On a sour note, I felt so bad for the airdale terrier. She refuses to walk. I have no idea why, or if this occurs outside of class. The trainer had her helper try to walk the airdale. She yanked on the dog until she was choking, at which point the trainer pointed out she was choking the dog. Later the trainer put the leash under the dog's hind legs and tried to get her to walk by lifting her. That didn't work either. I just kept thinking TREATS??? High value yummy TREATS?

Boh had a good time in class. I had my daughter handle him, so I could watch. He was grinning from ear to ear. As long as he is having fun, we will finish the class. Funny, all the threads about classes and the why of classes. I have trained my own dogs all my life. I have taught Boh all of his commands at home - plus a ton of tricks. I socialize him with people and dogs in the neighborhood. I feel like I could have just taken Boh to PetSmart and worked with distractions there and kept my money. Live and learn.

Yay Jan and Boh!!! I'm glad you stuck to your guns. Maybe you can secretly talk to the airedale's owner

Thanks guys. Nancy, I adopted Natty Boh sight unseen. I was expecting a lazy, rather dull crayon. I had no idea I was getting the brightest crayon in the box. He is so easy to train.

Shanna, You are right and Boh is doing very well with the distractions.

Daisy&Lucky's Mom, Natty Boh is so much fun - you know for a little hound dog. LOL! Kudos to you for taking on the two girls. I know they will end up bringing you a lot of joy. You and I lost our old GSDs within a few weeks of each other. (SIGH!)

Thanks Bear. I plan on trying to talk to the airedale's owner before class. My idea of training it to get the dog to WANT to do what you want him to do.

I'm glad I stuck it out. I'll keep y'all posted.
