Default German Sheppard Rescue Puppy

Hello guys I recently adopted my German Sheppard puppy from a sanctuary that I used to volunteer at. She started out incredibly shy and afraid of humans and other dogs. She has made incredible progress; Just a small bump in the training. She has learned Sit, Stand, Up, and Shake. The only two things I haven't been able to teach her are Stay and Laydown, Does anyone have and suggestions for how to teach them to her?

Just a picture of her for you guys to see

Ask her to sit, having the treat in your hand, put it on the ground and slowly drag it away from her. and just persist until she lays down. I have found some puppies to be a bit slow with this trick, but if you take her for a walk and then try and do it when she is already tired. She will be much more likely to lay down.

As for stay, sort of the same deal, sometimes it can be easier to teach on a leash. just ask her to sit, say stay and if she sits and looks at you for a treat reward her. After you get sit stay while you are close to her under control, then start taking a step away from her. Then go back to her and reward, I had a dog when I was young and the biggest mistake i did when trying to teach stay was getting the puppy to come to you after they have "stayed" it makes life easier down the track if you go back to them and reward. I now have a female gsd 8months old, I can have her drop and stay in the middle of a football field while I run laps around it. Good luck

Thank you so much! I didn't even think of dragging the treat along the ground to get her to lay down I'll be sure to start using those tips asap!

She is adorable and I love that pink collar. A tip for stay- work on it when your dog is tired out from play or whatever and start with very, VERY short amounts of time and standing right in front of them. Move slow, reward a lot
