New owner, need help! :/

I am a new owner of a beautiful solid black 10 week old GSD. During the past two weeks I have worked on her name & getting her use to a leash. Considering she has done extremely well I have decided training. I have been searching for a trainer near me but nothing yet SO I have decided to train her until then. I rescued a one year old GSD and trained her & then re-homed her. However, I have never trained a German Shepherd pup. I know basics such as sit, lie, paw, stop, come, etc. I know how to do them but she is stubborn. She doesnt want to look at me, she acts as if she is not eager to learn. When I try to use treats, she will look at thr ground for the treat as if I dropped it. I need help, any ideas? Also any other ideas on commands to use? Such as opening a door, finding an object, high five, & how to get her to speak on command? I am not using this for protection or anything an agressive dog is not a good dog & protection is natural for a GSD!

She is still very young, after the initial bonding which was always first in my belief then try working on her focus on you. You can use a clicker and treats or a toy that she likes but you have to keep it fun and not train for very long at a time. She is not being stubborn, she is still learning and it takes a little work but she will come along. Good luck.

Yes, I agree with Karen - she is very young. And you don't want to push her too fast too soon. My Sting was my very first puppy , my other dogs I had adopted when they were adults. I had to remember that he was just a baby - he tired out real fast - and I just learned to let him explore and take things at his own pace. The Art of Raising a Puppy by the Monks of New Skete was very helpful. Just relax and enjoy this time. By 6 months or so the pace will really pick up.

What you have is a baby dog!

You wouldn't expect an infant to go to kindergarten, would you?
What you should be doing at nine weeks is playing with her, potty training, and forging a bond. Right now her attention span is about five seconds. She wants to explore the world, find
new sights and sounds and smells, and play, so get some really great toys, play with her and let her be a tiny puppy.

No trainer would even agree to see me until Hans was five months old. That's when they said dogs would be capable of beginning formal training.
