Unhappy Puppy crying

Hi, Big Hoss' wife here. So Kyra the pup has been doing great with our middle of the night potty trips, but when my husband gets up at 430 or 5 for work and to feed her....she thinks it's party time. So he leaves for work around 6 and puts her in the backyard and so far she's done well with that but today she cried and whined and cried and whined. For fear of upsetting our new neighbors (we just moved in) I went out and brought her back in (probably a bad idea because I'm rewarding the crying?). But when I brought her in she just wanted to play, and then she had an accident in the house. So, I put her out and got ready for work. She went back to whining and crying for another hour. Then I went to play with her before I left for work and she didn't even want to play, she just sat by the door and wanted to go inside! I tried for a while and eventually had to leave and she was crying and pawing the door as I left. I have no idea if she is still doing that but am afraid my neighbors are going to be knocking soon. Help!? What should we do? She didn't do this last week, she was really good when we left for work but she's taking a turn. PS, she's 9 weeks old. Suggestions? Thank you.

She's a puppy. She's definitely going to be very needy. I would start practicing NILIF. Just be sure to keep the consistency of your routines and she'll catch on.

When my girl kept whining for attention, I never gave it to her until she stopped. I guess if you're in a hurry to go to work, it's fine. I wouldn't make it a routine though.

Can you crate her inside when you're gone?
I'd be worried about someone harming her for barking and carrying on while you're away.

yeah 9 wk olds need to be crated in the house not outside...crating is best for her at this age. Can you come home at lunch and let her out to potty and play a bit then back in the crate?

Best of luck.

Crate inside...and you have to ignore when she's crying...

We went on vacation for a week (had some friends stay over to take care of my GSD) and when we got back, she developed this new habit of barking when she woke up. She would normally have whined a little to let us know she was awake.

After a few days of ignore her (OK, maybe it was more like a week), she stopped with the barking. I'm pretty sure my dog was let out every time she had whined or barked with my friends...

She's been normal ever since.

Thanks gang, we are not crate training her during the day as we have a nice big backyard for her to run around in. We just crate her at night in the house with us. It's just after my husband feeds her in the AM she goes in the yard because she's too worked up to be back in the kennel. What is NILIF?

She's way too young to be left alone outside, anyone can steal her.

9 wks old is still just a baby. Too many things for her to get into. Wait until she starts digging a hole to China.

yes i was going to say anyone can see her and nab her up quick. Please heed our words for crating her. I'd hate to see a post saying she is gone

IMHO, it doesn't make sense to crate your dog when you're home and leave her out when you're gone... If your dog is too hyper in the morning after eating, just tire them out before you go to work. Maybe you can play fetch with them, play tag, tug-o-war.

I'm having to take my dog for a jog every morning (waking up extra early ) just to tire her out. I'm normally a late sleeper so it really hurts to wake up so early...

Leaving your dog out, unsupervised, can lead to bad behaviors such as digging, barking, chewing. There are some dogs that like to eat rocks! Please crate your dog while you're gone to prevent her from causing injury to herself as well as others.
