Default First big off lead experience

Isa, 5 months, has been off lead only on our property. Her recall is certainly not perfect. Today, beautiful day in the 50's, my son, my brother and SIL and I took her along with their border collie to my brother's 100 acres of wooded land. There are winding roads and trails all through the property. She was WONDERFUL!

She would get out of sight and either pop back in for a check in on her own or would come back when I called or whistled. I was soooo proud and pleased. She ran and ran, climbed embankments, carried rocks and sticks, chased squirrels and generally had a fantastic time for about 3 hours.

That is most definitely a "do again"!

Right now she is in crate, sleeping so soundly that I can hear little snores from the next room

That is great that you have a place like that to go and someone to go with. Sounds like she had a wonderful time and would love to go back.

Good for you, keep up the good work!

You starting up with dog classes? In conjunction with all the stuff I do around the house/yard/hiking the classes really help. Controlled environment plus training with distractions.

That's awesome!!! That's exactly the kind of thing I like to do best. You're lucky to have such a nice area!

Yes Maggie, we finished puppy 1 and will start puppy 2 next month. Also have a trainer coming to house first of Jan. He will help with basics, help train to invisible fence (we have 7 acres in fencing) and will go places with us to work on other areas (like barking like crazy at every dog she sees!). This guy also will help with good citizen preparation after we finish basics.

Think I will also look at joining the local obedience club.

I feel like there is so much to accomplish!

Yes, I plan on taking full advantage of family in this instance! In total, with all the adjoining land, there is 14,000 acres. If I wander too far off the area I know, I hope Isa can find our way back!
