Kira was crated for a good part of the day yesterday, so I took her for an early morning workout.
I've been having a hard time teaching her to fetch anywhere outside my home. I decided to try a place without the usual out scents, and distractions. I found a local schoolyard, with lots of space, and fully fenced. Here's a video of her fetching. She loved it, and wanted more. Here's the "urban agility" run ![]() Last edited by Anthony8858; 11-25-2011 at 10:50 AM. |

Great videos! Next week you'll probably have her going down that slide or sitting on a swing...she's really doing well for such a young dog, your hard work shows. She's looking so pretty and grown up already

LOL... I tried the slide, but didn't push the issue. When I have her undivided attention, I can get her to do anything. If there are scents from other dogs, and lots of other interests, it becomes very difficult to work outside of my house. I can only assume that this will improve with maturity. At least now I have a place where I can get her some exercise, without worrying about losing her. She has no place to escape in this playground. |

I was so excited I couldn't believe it. He's also been doing better with focus around the horses and dogs on our walks. So it comes...it comes. And of course, I just want to grab that ruff around her cheeks and stroke it. ♥ |

This seems to be the age when they start to "push the envelope", and test your patience. Kira's responded to the recall, while surrounded by dogs, yet I could be one on one with her, and she'll turn her head the other way. And yes..... I always grab her ruff around her cheeks, and fluff it up

Beautiful little girl, she seems to be doing really well with your training. I enjoyed the video and the pics, thanks for sharing with us. I thought it was cute how she spit that ball out at you without being told.

Be careful having her run on concrete at that age. A little of it is probably ok, but I'd be careful with that kind of impact on her joints on a daily basis.
If you can, try and find a fenced in baseball field with some nice soft grass and dirt.

Thanks Lucy. I appreciate the advice. I didnt consider that The school yard is only available on weekends (for obvious reasons) so I doubt I'd see any frequency.
I have quite a few fenced in dog runs, but the scents drive her crazy and are distracting. |

What about baseball fields or parks where people don't use? I don't know where you live, but there are tons that I use all the time in my towns. I go all over the place for lucy's daily romp in the park. There's always at least one big open field we use.
I know in my town they get mad if you use school properties even on the weekends. Most are "no dogs allowed" zones. The cops have run me off a few schools before.
