Shasta is lazy, Riley even lazier. Shasta will throw out every trick she knows except what i'm trying to teach her and then she just lays there like i've killed her from asking her to learn something new.

Lmfao, Sheldon does that too!!! I'll ask him to sit pretty, and he'll spin in circles until he's dizzy. bahaha. The attention span of a gnat is what he has.

Yep right here! Rio has no interest in working. Her job is to sleep, cuddle and generally be adorable. You should see her heel, she acts like I just took the jam out of her donut.
I bounce around and look like a mad woman while she lies there sighing and rolling her eyes. I am honestly exhausted by the end of our training sessions while she could probably do with another walk lol..
Its a nightmare trying to teach her a new trick, she will give me her paw and if thats unsuccessful she will try slope off back to her chair

I feel your pain. It can get so frustrating...I figure once he's a little older, he'll have more of an attention span. Besides, he knows the important stuff (sit, stay, lay down, go to bed, plus a couple fun ones: spin, shake paws, roll over and spin). Crazy dogs. He's lucky I love him <3

Age really does help. We struggled with the "Stay" for most of her puppyhood. She would break it again and again, its was so frustrating! She is a year and 5 months now and it recently clicked with her. Now we have a good Stay under destractions
Rio is very low energy so I dont think she will ever be a work lover but she is well behaved so I'm happy.
It sounds like you have one smart pup!

Yeah, he breaks stay sometimes....for the most part, as long as i give him a chewy, he'll stay pretty good. eventually I'll need to get him to do it without the toy though. under distraction though? hahahahha....we're working on that xP he loves anyone, any dog or anything he can chase. and thanks! we think he's pretty genius. gotta love the high drive dogs This is the first time i've ever had a dog from puppyhood...all the others I've had have been adults when I got them. Definitely a learning experience.

How old is your dog? Age could be a factor: too young or too old for what you are asking. I don't consider my dog lazy ... more like 'practical'. She will do what I ask for a few repetitions then begin to slow down on response because she's 'been there, done that, nothing more to prove'. Or she is bored and looking for a different challenge. She is not high or low drive per se. If we are doing something interesting she is high drive until it isn't interesting anymore. Could be ADD instead of ADHD.

Raina seemed to be attention deficit when she was a puppy. Her attention span was maybe 10 minutes and that was only if we were doing something really interesting or exciting. We did gradually work up to longer training times but really 10 minutes for each behavior is about all she can take before getting bored. I have to be inventive and actively involved to keep her attention (as a good trainer should be anyway). She is very bright and gets bored with too many repetitions of the same thing.

by rear end work doyou mean perch training? (Hind end awareness)

i was having the same issue.
I could get him to perch but that was it, as I tried to "lure" him to move his back end he would just sit.

I was going about it all wrong.

If this is what you are doing consider this (which was explained to me and has worked)...

Dont' lure to move the back end. don't present the treat.
Once perched, move your body just a little to the side, mark and reward the slightest movement of the back end.

I found that I could get a full rotation after about 3 minutes of doing this.
