Default Bubble.

Any ideas on how to get a dog out of my personal space while training? Close is fine. Stepping on my feet when I tell you to sit, or putting your paws on my hands when I point down is starting to get old (especially when his nails start to get a little long...yowch).

Nail clippers and crate?

nails still hurt, even when short =P and he's got a crate, but that doesn't help when I'm working with him....

Funny. I thought you were exercising especially since you mentioned him getting out of your personal space LOL. How old is your dog?

Lol, he's about 5 months. And I'm talking about when I tell him to sit or lay down...he ALWAYS puts his paws up on me, or will paw my hands/arms when i tell him down (lay down...go to bed is his crate command). I just want him to stop pawing at me

I am not sure but I think he is displaying typical puppy behavior which he should outgrow eventually. The puppies I raised displayed similar behavior and outgrew it. They are just playful at that age. Hang in there a few more months and this may resolve itself.

I agree. Shasta was a "PAW EVERYTHING" type puppy and she outgrew it by the time she was about 8 months old. She learned she got NOTHING from pawing. Just discourage the pawing. When puppy paws, remove the object of the pawing, even if that means you. Say 'NO!" and leave. Should connect the pawing with your leaving.

I taught my Golden "back off". She is an all-up-your-face kind of dog, especially when I'm trying to work with the puppy. Now when I tell her to "back off" she takes a step back and sits. The puppy hasn't quite figured it out yet though.
Maybe integrate it into your training?

The pawing thing.... yeah, I feel your pain on that one.
