Just got a new puppy a week ago, he is 10weeks old tomorrow. My one problem is he would much rather bite and chew on me than his toys. I try to redirect him to them, but when we play he always wants to go for my hands not the toy. I have tried holding his mouth shut, ignoring him when he bites, telling him no, making a loud noise when he does bite, and all that just seems to get him more worked up and want to bite more. I dont know what else I should try. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!

Welcome to puppyhood! Just keep doing what you are doing. One thing that works for me is actually putting the toy in his mouth. Have you tried that?

Do you play with him or just put the toy in his mouth and that's it?

the only thing that worked for me was she got tierd of biting me and thought tug-of-war was much more fun. cant say if playing tug is the best game but maggie goes crazy for it and i'm always the one the starts the game and i put it up when were done playing

I do play with him when I try to redirect him that way, but when it gets away from him, instead of going for the end that is closest to him, he'll go for the part thats closest to my hand, or just my hand all together.

keep up with redirecting to a toy. Also TIME OUTS! When he starts biting and refuses to be redirected/distracted by something appropriate, you put him in his crate nicely for a time out and walk away for a couple minutes. you pup will learn pretty quick that the fun ends when he's obnoxious. If you choose to spray your hands with a chew deterrent, remember to wash them REALLY good immediately after you're done playing!
