Default Jumps OFF pier... How to get back ON pier?

I'm curious.....

Just poking around at some some member pics, and I see some dogs eagerly jump off piers, and into deep water, as part of their training.

I'm just wondering how the handlers of these dogs get them back on the pier, and out of the water?

Rocky jumped off the boat dock once. We had to haul him back in like a big fish. He was strongly discouraged from jumping off the boat dock again.

Now for some reason, that never occurred to me.

I've seen some images that appear that it may have been a man made lake, with a pretty high bank.
That's why I asked.

Thanks

Also, there are vests that have handles where you can grab the dog and help pull them back up too.
