8 weeks old is very young. going out every hour is good.
you're putting your dog in his kennel at 10:30 p. m. and taking him out at 1:30 a.m.. that's 3 hours being in the kennel without being taken out. take him more often. when my pup was 9 weeks old he was outside every 15 minutes then every 1/2 hour every hour and so as time passed. over night he was out every 2 hours. before your dog barks he's probably giving you a signal that he wants to go out but you're missing the signal. your pup is barking at 8 weeks old to go out. that's a smart pup. Is the kennel too big for him? If he has a lot of room to sleep AND relieving himself without sleeping it in, it's too big.

Isnt the rule of thumb 1 hour per month of age?
Agree on kennel size could be an issue too. Set clock for right time; take dog out before barks Believe me it gets better.

I'm beginning to have the same issue as well. He wasn't using the bathroom in his crate when we first got him, then one day I unfortunately had a super long day at work, and he was alone for 8 hours, and went in the crate =(
He doesn't always wake my boyfriend up in the middle of the night to go. That is becoming less frequent. But now that he went in his crate the first time, I guess he thinks its okay. Because since then it has happened several times, like 4-6 probably. I know his crate isn't too big, I almost thought it was a little small at first, but apparently I was wrong, since he is still going to the bathroom in it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! |
