My 7 yr old grouch dog and I went to see a personal trainer last night due to his aggression with our new addition. It was then determined that we, the owners, should be the ones put down. I received so much information from her last night. I was doing so many things wrong. Turns out she thinks Casper is a great dog, and in her words is just very "intense" and "confident". She said that I need to be more confident than he is so that he knows I'm the Alpha. She also informed me there's a difference in a dog having manners, which Casper does, and a dog having rules. So, I am opting to do personal training in a 6-8 week period and she is going to help us introduce the pup to the old grouch and teach us the error of our ways! If you're new to this, my only advice is to seek help...it's only fair to your pups. I'm thankful I decided to do it!

Keep up posted on what kinds of things she works on with you and how it is working.
Ask lots of questions. And let her know if something does not seem to be working for you. A good trainer has a toolbox of things to try for different behaviors. They have to match the dog's personality and the person's personality/ability to the correct tool (training method). If you do not believe the method will work, it will not. Try to be open-minded, but let her know if anything is just not working. If that happens, and you try to stick with it, it will be frustrating and you can give up. Much better to try a thing, and let her know, so she can have you try something else. Good luck, I am glad you are going to a trainer.

Glad to hear that!! Good luck with the training of "you". Don't be down on yourself for everything you didn't know. The fact that you reached out to make the situation better is a great indicator of your love
for your dogs!
