Default Kira first fetch (video)

First... I have to warn you.... I get VERY excited at the end.

I live a quarter mike from this little shoreline. it's a deserted stretch of beach, and a perfect spot for Kira to get her exercise.

Kira found a stick, and I decided it was a perfect opportunity to entice her to come back for a treat.

Here's Kira's first fetch

Very amazed..

First fetch, and last one too.

She's still in beginner puppy class, and I don't want to push too hard.

I threw the stick about 3-4 times.
First I gave it to her, and while she was holding it, I put some treat under her nose. She dropped the stick, and she got the treat.

Then I dropped the stick about 3 feet in front of me. First I played a little tug with it, to get her interest, then threw it in front of me. I showed her the treat, and she got the stick. I then dangled her treat again, and she exchanged the stick for the treat..

Then I did about 5-10 feet out... same results.

Then I took a chance, and gave it a throw. She went for it.
I didn't want to continue to teach her, because she's in obedience and agility training, and will be taught the proper way.... in her due time.

So far: (from her class)

She will look at my eyes on the "watch me" command.
She walks by my side, with "watch me", and doesn't take her eyes off my face.
Sits on command
Stay, and down, and leave it

So far Ruger sees no reason to bring anything back. All games of fetch turn into games of keep away.

So far... from my minimal amount of experience.... A really good treat will win over that stick anytime.

I had some chicken cooked in chicken stock. Cut into little chunks.

If she understood how to do a cartwheel, she would do it for that chicken

High level foods for treats

Every morning, I can see a few shepherds and labs doing dozens of retrieval exercises in the water there.
The name of the beach is " doggie beach" it's pretty secluded, and far away from any vehicles.

Question:

Are dogs natural swimmers?

Can I expect to one day, simply throw her toy in the water, and she'll fetch it?.... Of course, without sinking
