At least for a while, I'd like my puppy to be crated while we are in the car. Would there be any problem with using one crate or would I need to have two different ones?

No. Unless I get a pick up truck, it's not possible. I recently tried to buy and fix up a harness to belt him safely to the backseat. He sat obediently albeit looking very uncomfortable as he's on the larger end for about 5 minutes and then shifted his weight turning his head to the window. That's when he popped himself out of the car's belt as in the belt buckle came out of the holster. I returned the merchandise. That was the end of that.
I drive slow and very carefully. |

I have multiple crates. Wolf has a crate that sits permanently in our den to sleep in. Too much trouble to take it down and move it and it will not fit in my car. I have a canvas one for hotel rooms(folds into a bag), one that fits perfectly in the back of my Toyota FJ and another extra that I use for in the garage or to take to horse shows. And they are all different sizes. I ended up with so many because different ones work best in different situations and for different purposes. But I tend to do things overmuch. You could definitely use just one.
