I think the great point of this trailer is the extra a/c ventilation set up. This would be critical in AZ & the SW in general (and SE too for sure) in summer. I don't think I'd trust a horse trailer to cool adequately for dogs in these areas.

trust me,horse trailers nowa days are the extreme in creature comforts.camera system inside, padded walls and floors,a/c systems that would make the north pole seem warm and not to mention 5 star living quarters for you.we live in alberta where 46 or 47 celsius is expected.

What are the negatives of a trailer versus having crates in a truck or van? I've been going back and forth for a few years--not sure what I want to do when my truck finally gives out. I have a friend who might be selling her 3 door WT-Metall Thermo trailer and I could buy that. But would I be happy with it or would I always leave it sitting in the driveway?

What do you guys think, those of you who've used dog trailers?

Theft. Your dogs are neatly packaged for anyone that wants to pull out the hitch pin and haul them away.
Vent failure. If you put your dogs in it for an hour and that's the day the AC decides to give out...
Accidents. Passenger vehicles have crumple zones. If anything hits your trailer, it IS the crumple zone.
I could see it being neat though for schutzhund or shows where you're right next to it the whole time and can just pop them into the compartments when they're not on the field.
