Well actually my boyfriends dog. He has a husky/shepherd mix that we cannot keep in the backyard. He doesn't run away he just climbs the fence to play with my neighbors labs who luckily are friendly but I know they are getting annoyed with my dog getting into their yard.
I do not want to chain him up and lately i've been keeping him indoors and just crating him when I go to work. I know he hates it, this dog lives for being outside. I bring them all in at night and Cain is the only one who will sometimes still whine to be let back outside. Or if someone knows of a decent inexpensive one that would work too. It's either that or try to build some sort of fence extension but im not too sure how long we will be living at this house so I don't want to do anything too permanent. |

I have one that we did not have success with. Our prior dog, who LOVED to run free, figured out she could handle that moment of pain to experience the great rush of freedom. I don't know if we have the collar to go with it still. I'll look around.

an E fence in combination with a regular fence might work, I'd also play/exercise the pupper alot, a tired dog is a good dog

He gets tons of exercise, Evan takes him for a nice bike ride every morning before he has to go to work having Cain run alongside him while he rides his bike and we have a large yard with 3 other dogs running around and he's running constantly. I don't think he ever gets tired!
He loves water so around summer time I have a pool I put out for him and that keeps him entertained all day long for hours and hours but it's just too cold for that this time of year. Also, he doesn't really run anywhere. He just goes into my neighbors yard to play with their dogs or i'll find him asleep on my front porch. I've had him climb the fence to get out of the yard only to scratch on the front door to be let inside and then once he's indoors for about 10 minutes he wants to go right back out! |

I don't think I'd trust a husky mix on an e-fence. A dog with high enough drive will blow through the fence regardless of correction if the distraction is big enough. Too risky, IMO.
We have a breeder here who has a puppy buyer that lost their GSD due to getting hit by a car. Blew through the e-fence when chasing a deer. Quote:
What do you do to MENTALLY tire him out?
