Okay, so I'm new to tracking and I want to get my dogs to do something for fun. How old should my dogs be before starting, and what books or websites do you reccomend to help me get started in teaching.

Alright, has anyone who self taught themselves have any advice? I'd like to get my boys started in it. Which would be better for me as a beginner to teach, AKC or scH? They probably won't compete ever, but I would like for them to have a "job" to do.

I always recommend this book.
Tracking Dog by Glen Johnson. I bought it after I started tracking with the help of a mentor, and he uses the same methods. He also lays out some schedules if you plan to go to trial. I do AKC style, but we haven't trialed. It's just a game for my girl. |
