How do those that feed raw and track handle the bait? Do you just switch to different food for tracking and deal with it, or dehydrate meat or what? Looking for ideas.

Howzabout the bags of dehydrated raw premade? I have friends tracking in Schutzhund who use K9Kraving, but there's also other dried brands out there. Maybe HonestKitchen and Omas Pride.
Good luck!

I use hotdogs, cheese, hamburger, chunks of heart, pieces of roast, even tried kidney ONCE since is was free (smelled like a bag of urine YUCK). Mostly hotdog since it is cheap.

I don't worry about treats being part of our "raw" diet. They are just treats. Go with whatever will motivate the dog. At our house, the favorite treats are cat kibble. The pieces are really small, and they must be strongly flavored because they stink.

It's possible, but a pain, and does have some drawbacks. How long are the tracks, and how much are you wanting to age them? I've done it with my dogs, but not in the introductory stage of tracking, where I'd put food in nearly every footstep.

John, it does present a problem. What I did was use chicken necks. They were really easy to chop into tiny pieces. On other days you could use roast or hamburger since the chicken necks are almost all bone.

I take his normal meal and just chop it into pieces and add things like hot dogs, even in the foundation training where food is in every step. The hot dogs filled in the steps between parts of his meal. I did use the frozen BilJac instead of hot dogs but I guess Flash is a mutant, he did not care for it and wouldn't eat it, it just told him he was on the track.
