In the years I have had dogs I have never had one that was healthy enough to participate in sports.
Now, in Sam (black Lab) I have a young dog who loves to search things out. He had a hip replacement in January (he was picked up by animal control after being hit by a car) and has been restricted to a leash for the past 3 months. To keep him mentally occupied I hide his favourite Kong in the yard (wooded lot), put him on a long line and let him look for it. He has found it every time - I'm amazed at how he methodically searches and seemingly follows smells. Sam needs some more obedience training, but I wonder if he might be interested in / good at tracking? i know nothing about tracking so any thoughts or basic information would be greatly appreciated.
