Default What are the odds?

Finally the snow has melted enough that I did my first track with Gryff yesterday.

It was just a short one with one corner and one article, his ball at the end for the big reward.

LOL, he was so excited and happy to track! Was a pleasure to see his enthusiasm, sometimes his approach to tracking is lukewarm. He was off a bit when the wind shifted, and he indicated crooked, but I didn't fuss over those details, just happy that he was so into the work and didn't want to damper the positive energy he was brining into his tracking.

At one point he stopped and was sniffing the ground, then started to paw at that dead grass. I though he was trying to get a piece of kibble up so I waited. He was digging now - hmmm, didn't think that kibble would have fallen that deep down under the dead grass - but wait, there is something red buried in there: A Kong ball!!!! What are the odds of finding an old buried ball RIGHT on our track??

As impressed I was that Gryff sniffed it out and dug it out, I was even more impressed that he quickly, without hesitation determined that A), this is not HIS ball, and B) this is NOT an article, and went right back to tracking without any prompting from me, with full focus and commitment. Good boy Gryff!

Has anyone else had surprise finds while tracking?

Twice when (laying) tracks I've found money. The first time was $9 and a single $ the second time.

Cell phone that had been lost by the owner a year prior. Snow had barely melted, and it was in a grassy area in an office park, when doing some realistic tracking. Dried out the phone, charged it, and returned it to the owner.

Weather resistant phone

Good Boy Gryff!
All we ever find is dog, goose, or rabbit poop~now and then there are deer droppings. Tennis, lacrosse balls are always on our tracking grounds because we track at a high school. But they aren't buried.
Cool story about the phone too!

I tracked yesterday in a park and while I let it age, a senior citizen pulled in and decided to start driving golf balls all over my track. After his first set, I asked him to take a break so I could run the track. I need some private land to track on!
