Default Tracking training SW Ontario?

Hello all!

Does anyone know of any good tracking trainers in SW Ontario (close to London) for a newb team? I'm very interested, but so far my only experience is seeing a few trials, and my dog likes to seek hidden toys. I'm hoping to train for TD and TDX to start. Because I have no experience I would really like to start with a professional. I have worked with Dave Walker of CR Dogs out of Oakville and highly recommend him. I have heard great things about his tracking sessions too so will likely be going through him. Is there anyone else Windsor-Toronto that would be recommended?

Thanks!

I , on the other hand, would HIGHLY recommend Cross Country Tracking Club -- they hold trials, they have results .

They are a fun bunch of people and Sue Coutts comes down to train , trial etc.

When I first got Stark, one of the ladies from there gave me some GREAT advice and pointers! Highly recommend Carmen's link.

Also, if you are down in Windsor, and want to learn about SchH style tracking or just about how to track - head to the Windsor SchH club - Joe is EXTREMELY knowledgeable in this venue (and others) and although is a tad old school in his training methods is open with his methods and theory. Learned a lot from him.

Michelle Ross is in Aberfoyle, but only goes in the warmer months.

I observed a class and she was a lot of fun.

You could check out Scentral Ontario Trackers.

Sorry it's a bit of a drive, but closer than Toronto.

Hi, Shoshanna:
As you seem to be interesting in pursuing tracking for CKC titles, not only just for fun, I'd like to suggest you find an individual or club offering classes that is geared to this. There are people tracking (and giving classes) that are for the enjoyment, which is great, but you need a person knowledgeable in the CKC rules and ideally with experience and titles behind them.
The Tracking Council Reps. have spent the past year updating the CKC Tracking Rules and Rulebook, effective Jan. 1, 2013, and you will want to get that information if you plan to test.
I believe you would be closest to the Scentral Trackers and the London group, and both offer tracking tests. I am sure there would be someone offering group or private lessons in one of those venues.
It's great you said you've gone to watch tests. A good way to begin learning about the process...offering to be a tracklayer is even better...the judges are great with new tracklayers interested in the sport. Hope you contact one of those clubs and we'll be seeing you and your 'new tracking dog' in the near future. Good luck!
