I've been contemplating on trying to teach Tex on how to track. But wondered for those of you that have taught your dogs to track, did you teach track to your dog, or did you go to like a class or like a school/or and individual?
Are there any books on tracking that you recommend? |

What type of tracking do you want to do? Different methods w/ AKC and IPO.
There are good books and video's available to set the right foundation, you don't need lessons, but having another set of eyes is always good, and having people to track with helps the dog work thru distractions. I like Gary Pattersons Tracking from the Beginning and have watched a few DVD's when renting thru BowWowFlix.com Joanne Fleming Plumbs vid's are good too. Kris Kotsopoulos has a great tracking method, but his book is hard to get in the US.... Last edited by onyx'girl; 08-08-2012 at 10:51 PM. |

What is IPO? Thank you for the links, I will check them out. And its good to know that you can teach tracking by yourself. There are a few people here in town that do tracking, maybe I can get in contact with them to see if maybe they can offer a little bit of help. |
