what ever is cheap.
Usually hot dogs, but sometimes ground meat (beef or pork). At articles they might get meat scraps, chicken, turkey. At the end Donovan gets a can of sardines.

I use whatever I have on hand. Mostly kibble and hot dogs mixed. Sometimes other things. They like to track so it makes it easier!

Low scent food like kibble. High scent food creates a more prominent scent than the track stomped foilage/grass. You want the dog to recognize the stomped track foilage/grass as the primary scent and the food as the secondary. That way they associate the scent of the track foilage with the excercise, which is what you want when the food is not there.

I'm trying to stay away from using food. If I'm working on articles (straight track w/ alot of gloves or socks) I'll put a little food inside the article. (chicken or cheese) I'm not using food to get her to track but as a reward for letting me know where a article was dropped.

Dont you slowly increase the gap between the foods on the scent trail? so after a while the dog should realise its following the scent to find the next piece of food?
I'm VERY new and do not wish to sound condescending, I just type my thoughts out
