Default Tracking....

Okay, so we've gotten a LOT down with ScH work, minus one, tracking. I'm not knowledgeable on this at all... Can anybody recommended a thread, a site, anything. Advice on how to lay a track, what I need to do with Killian to help him learn to track.

I thought you were training with a club. They should be showing you what to do.

I am, but I'm not going back for three weeks because I have other obligations on those training days. I forgot to ask them on Friday, and I was hoping to read up and what not on it now.

Here are a few tips:
Schutzhund Village
I would introduce articles from the get-go. just place them in your driveway and teach Killian to platz on them, clik and treat when he does. Then pick up the article/with food in your same hand(stay low to the ground) and encourage him to follow the article as you move it forward, reward him when he does this.
He should have the article right between his paws while platzing straight, so reward him in that position(you can move the article to give him the picture)
Make articles a big deal/reward. Scent pads are the first step as far as actual tracking, google for some youtube videos, and other articles. There is alot of info out there.

When Josh started tracking we were told to get the book "Tracking from the beginning" by Gary Patterson (try amazon, it's an specialty book so I don't know that it's available in stores). It goes over what tracks to lay in what order. My husband is doing the tracking with Josh he got a lot of good ideas from that book.
