Default Gripper Dog Tracking Line

Gripper Dog Tracking Line
Gripper Dog Tracking Line - $20.95 : Dog Equipment, Police Dog, Schutzhund, Service Dog, Dog Agility

Does anyone use this?

I am thinking of picking it up, I have a biothane lead that I use now and really like it, but am thinking this might be nice too.

Just looking for those who use this line and any comments on this product.

Thanks guys.

Do you train with anyone that uses one? You could borrow it for a few tracks and see if you like it. That is what I did - borrowed a bunch of different lines to see which one I liked the best - what I found when tracking at the end of a regulation lenght line, was that I like the wider and lighter ones - so biothane, gripper was too heavy, but do like the shorter ones for training and other uses.

20 bucks is for the 10 foot line, the regulation 33 foot line is 35 bucks.

Now I do have a 10 foot gripper line I use for training/tracking, and it is a big favorite of mine. They are nice on the hands, easy to grip, don't cut your hands, don't get slippery when wet, and stay flexible and soft even in very cold weather.

So my #2 choice of a long-line would be a gripper.

Is this Biothane/ASAT or the Grip-rite stuff? My regulation line is biothane, which I love (I also use biothane leads for all-purpose stuff, obedience, and protection). I have (well, had) one leash that was 1" grip-rite material and I was pleased with it as an all-purpose/obedience/jogging lead until last week, Pan lunged once and the leash just ripped in half, not even at a seam. Now I don't really trust the material.

I used to have posh hand made Mennonite leather equipment -- .

Then I used Gripper. Now it is the only thing I use. Feels great in the hand. No special care needed. Washable. Doesn't break or get heavy with wet. Does not slip through the hands. Liked it so much I bought it in volume and provide it for my puppy buyers and to customers at the market.

Introduced it to psdontario Mike and I believe it is all that he uses now and he sells it at his boarding facility.

Very smart products. The only product that I don't like of theirs are the collars. There is not enough collar to loop back through , you have this little end sticking out which can open the collar at a bad time . Design should be more generous and allow an extra 3 inches past the last opening.

Love them, love the company. For companies such as ours, Gripper will create specialty items on request (and put different clasps such as HS Quik releases). They have jute frisbees and toys as well. Always been good to deal with, had only one return (a bad clasp).
I especially like these leads in the rain, good traction, but not too much. I use mine for protection work as well.

Thanks everyone.

I ordered two leads, one for tracking (schH regulation) and another 6' lead for out and about.

I am excited to get these and try them out!

Thanks for posting this- I'm going to get one too. I need a 15' lead for herding lessons- we're in a 'two steps forward, one step back' phase and I have to let him drag a lead at times. I LOVE your avatar pic Elizabeth

Let me know how it works for you too Stosh!

Stark is going to be doing some herding this summer, if he does well at his evaluation in June so I would be interested to see how it holds up in that environment.

I have all leather for schH, except tracking where I use my biothane line.

Hmm.. Lies, this is my worry too - it not being strong enough to hold Stark, who I guess is about 85-87lbs. We are still working on reactivity issues (well, it's maintance now really because for the past month we have been having an easy-breezy time with no reactions and focus around new people/dogs) so this is something I have been thinking about too.

The best lead I have ever used for tracking is a piece of retired rapel line. I tie a good snap on one end, put a knot in the other end. I make them in 15 and 30 foot models for my handlers. They "snake" through trees and brush without getting tangles and are easy to hang onto. Over the years, I've used about everything there is and hands-down, these are the best, in my opinion, for tracking.
