find a trainer.

i don't know if this is really tracking
but i can hide things indoors or outdoors
and my dog will go and find them.

i started out by hiding things and making it very
easy for my dog to find. i use to hide my wallet.
in the beginning i would attach a biscuit
to my wallet with a rubber band. i would have my dog stay.
i would walk 2 feet away and place the wallet
behind a chair, a wall , behind the sofa, etc.
then i would say "find it".

we did that for a while.
then i started increasing the distance
and placing the wallet up on things
or under things.

outdoors i used the same method. now i can
hide things far away and my dog will find them.

my GF can go into the woods and hide.
i'll go in the woods 15 minutes later and tell
him "find Rosie" or "go to Rosie" and off
he goes to look for her.

To begin with You will need a tin of dog meat, I don't know any American brands but the smellier the better. A pointed stick and a pair of rubber boots, and a dog lol

Make sure the dog is kept away from the trail whilst you make it.

The stick is the marker so you know where the track begins. Place the stick in the ground directly to the left of the track you are about to make.

With the heel of your boot make 4 indents in the ground to form a square, about 5 inches apart and place a spoonful of meat in each indent.

Slide your feet over the grass for about 12 to 15 inches then make another indent this time only one, once again place a spoonful of meat in it, Repeat this for a maximum of about 10 yards.

At the end make a larger indent and place a larger amount of food in it. Jump as far as you can to the side of the trail. Don't walk back over the trail you have just made.

Wait about 15 minutes, this gives time for the scent tunnel to form.

Approach with the dog, the first few times you will probably have to bend over and run your fingers over the grass along the trail guiding the dogs nose until he gets the idea. Keep a short leash but a lose leash, make sure he finds all the food , if he misses one gently pull him back to it letting his nose follow your finger.

Do this for about 20 times and when your confident that he can do this without your finger leading him it will be time to advance.
