This dog seems all over the place! She did a lot of what looked like, just running around, before she actually settled and got on track. I thought a Judge would blow the whistle if you started a track like this dog did?

Ummmm...
I only watched the first part of the video since I couldn't take ten minutes of watching that! I wouldn't even know what the dog was supposed to be doing if it wasn't labeled! -Jackie |

Well, the dog DID put its nose down every now and then at the beginning - so you could say the dog was working.
As long as the judge thinks the dog is working the track they will let them keep going.

Hmmm...Interesting.
I don't know much about AKC tracking, but I always thought it was similar to SchH tracking...Guess not! I guess they get more serious and competitive at the higher level titles maybe... -Jackie |

Personally, if that was my dog and I KNEW they could track better (which the dogs shows how well it can track later in the video) - I would have pulled it from that test.
As hard as it would be I wouldn't want my dog thinking they could start a track like that and get the fun of continuing.

AKC is not as serious at SchH Tracking. The dog does not have to keep his nose down deep and as much of the video I could sit still to wach is pretty much normal for AKC. In training for my TD i seen many dogs track like this.
Also this track was at the horse park in Lexington Ky. I've not tracked there yet but I hear its a hard place to Q on at any level. I did notice the water on one side and trees all around so I would guess the sent is all over that area. Looks a lot like the first TD track Max had ( He had and Qed at two TD tracks) and the wind was blowing pretty hard off the water.

IMO, that was terrible. Until the dog did actually commit and work, which was past the point that I wanted to turn the video off! lol. The dog peed, ate horse poop(as per the video descrp. and you could her yelling at him to leave it) which I would say is enough to say the dog isn't working!
The dog did try to cheat once he got excited and came of the track, but did well at getting back on after he kept visually searching, IMO. I would say the judge was quite forgiving!

Wasn't impressed with that track... but watched the one of a Saint tracking which was excellent... he's also in conformation, agility and drafting!! And lived to 10+ years! way to go Kris!

if it were area search, I'd have sent that dog home at minute 2, less to say tracking!
That dog may have ended up doing the track, but he lacks of any work ethic.
