Default Someone, or something, stole my glove!

I setup a nice track for Chico this morning about 240 yards, and ended it with a glove. I only let it age for 40 minutes because I walked over a gravel/rocky parking lot, and some blacktop and he has not done much of that cover yet. Anyhoo, we get going and he is doing a decent job and when we get to the end....NO glove! There was no one there when I left and no one there when we got there, so I am baffled. Thankfully, it was an old glove that I never wear anymore. I wasn't sure how he should end, I have never had that happen before?

I have had articles stolen off tracks before too. I've also left treats inside canisters and containers, only to find them raided. We aren't alone out there in the tracking fields - critters are everywhere. That old glove is probably a great addition to someone's burrow or nest.

Also, was it windy?

If you are 100% sure he was exactly on the track, I would play with him and praise it up, even tho there was no glove - just like you might do along the way, getting to the glove (assuming it hasn't been stolen!)

No, it wasn't windy out this morning.

When we did reach the end, I still praised him, got excited and did our happy dance. I think he wasn't sure why I was doing that, because there was no article, but he did finish so I had to reward him.

If I get to this area early enough I have seen rabbits, ground hogs, squirrels, raccoons, and all sorts of other creatures, so you are probably right, some little critter decided it would be a nice addition to its nest

I always carry an extra article with me just for such situations (or I would take something off me like a sock or an earring or cellphone) or if I think the dog is too tired to continue (always want to finish on a good note). So I just toss the article ahead of me on the track and then when he finds it praise him. I just don't want to praise without article because it's actually the ultimate goal of running a track, and the end is not really the end of the track since it continues and the dog knows it (unless the tracklayer is lifted in the air).

When I track in parks the articles are often disappear because concerned citizens pick them up and take to the trash

Ah the case of the missing article!!!!!

I have lost count of how many have disappeared from tracks. It is really bad on VST's cause as Oksana says, peole pick them up a take them to the dumpster.

I also carry a "throw out article" in the event the glove is gone. I also track with multiple articles so there ar elots of them in my tracking bag anyway.

Do you use an article at the start? If you do you can use that one.

No, I usually just have one article at the end. From now on though, I will carry an extra with me so Chico does have one to find at the end.

If you plan on doing AKC tracking you will find an article at the start too so may want to use one.

That way you have your extra article too. I just pick up the start article and carry it with me in my pocket.
